The Mountain Crow flight: simple, scenic, and made for first-timers

If you’ve been dreaming of seeing Switzerland from a bird’s-eye view, this is the cleanest way to start: you take off from Pilatus and glide quietly over forests, cliffs, and the shimmering Lake Lucerne landscape—no “tandem factory” vibe, no stress, just real flying with an experienced pilot.

This flight is especially popular with beginners who want a short, safe, and price-conscious tandem experience without missing the big panorama. With 15–20 minutes of flight time and the full altitude difference of the Pilatus valley drop, it delivers a surprisingly “full” experience for an entry-level flight.

Choose your style in the air (pick one highlight)

During the flight, you can usually choose one of these three icluded add-on experiences:

  1. Long scenic glide – use the available height for a longer glide towards the Swiss plateau

  2. A touch of adrenaline – steeper turns, dynamic spirals, and that rollercoaster feeling

  3. Try steering – take the controls for a short moment (with your pilot right there)

Because the Bergdohle is shorter, we usually focus on one of these highlights rather than cramming everything in. If you want more airtime and the option to combine multiple experiences, take a look at the Eagle Flight.

Meeting point & landing (easy logistics)

Meeting is typically either at the Pilatus cable car valley station in Kriens or up on Mt. Pilatus, depending on what you choose. Full details and directions are here:

Total duration:
Please plan around 2.5 hours in total for the whole experience.

  • If we meet in Kriens, it can be as quick as 1.5 hours from meeting point to landing, depending on conditions and timing.

  • If we meet up on Mt. Pilatus, we usually finish about 1 to 1.5 hours later at the valley station in Kriens — or in Alpnach on weekends, if requested.

As always, exact timing depends on weather, wind, and cable car schedules. We plan efficiently, but we don’t rush what should be a relaxed flying experience.

Passenger Requirements

There’s no strict age limit, but a basic level of fitness is required. Flying isn’t ideal for children under six, though it may be possible after prior consultation – as long as they meet the minimum height requirement of 1.20 meters.

Minimum height: 1.20 meters
Maximum height: 2.20 meters
Weight: 15 to 100 kg – Flights for passengers over 100 kg are possible on selected days with strong updrafts.

Please note: Flights must be done sober. For safety reasons, full responsiveness and decision-making ability are required.

Cancellation Policy

Up to 48 hours before your flight, you can reschedule yourself or cancel for a 95% refund or a voucher—after that, the deposit is retained, and within 24 hours the flight is charged. (GTC)

  • Reschedule until 48h before: Change your date online yourself (no support needed).

  • Cancel until 48h before: Choose 95% refund or a voucher.

  • Less than 48h before: The deposit is kept to cover planning and short-notice cancellation costs.

  • Within 24h / no-show: The flight is charged and any voucher entitlement expires, as the slot can rarely be rebooked at such short notice.

Flight Weather on Mount Pilatus
On our website, you’ll find a handy weather tool powered by artificial intelligence.
It calculates the likelihood of suitable flying conditions over the coming days – especially helpful when you’re booking last minute. This can give you a solid idea of whether it’s a good time to book a flight.
However, please note: this tool does not replace the expert judgment of an experienced pilot. Their assessment remains the most reliable source.

What is the difference between Bergdohle, Adler and Drache flights?

The three offers differ in planned flight time, use of thermals and intensity.

  • Bergdohle is the classic panoramic flight from Pilatus with about 15–20 minutes in the air—ideal for a first experience.
  • The Adler flight uses thermals more actively and extends the experience to around 20–35 minutes if updrafts are available.
  • The Drache flight is our longest option with 35–50 minutes in the air and a guaranteed minimum flight time of 30 minutes.

All flights launch—depending on the wind—from Pilatus Kulm or Klimsen and land in Kriens. The actual duration always depends on the weather and safety decisions.

How long will my flight actually be—and how much time should I plan?

The actual time in the air ranges from 15 minutes to 50 minutes depending on the package, and the overall experience takes about 1½ to 3 hours. Flight time depends on wind, thermals and safety margins.

Additional time is needed for meeting up, briefing, the ride on the cable car and any waiting for optimal launch conditions. Especially with thermal flights it can make sense to wait for the right wind window—safety takes precedence over schedules.

How many metres of altitude do we fly?

The altitude difference is around 1,200–1,600 metres depending on the launch site—additional height is possible in thermals. Pilatus has impressive topography. From Kulm or Klimsen there is already a large vertical drop down to the landing site in Kriens even without updrafts. In good conditions, especially with the Adler or Drache flights, additional height can be gained.

What happens if the guaranteed 35 minutes on the Drache flight are not reached?

If the guaranteed minimum flight time of 35 minutes is not reached on a Drache flight, we refund the difference to the Bergdohle price. The guarantee applies only to the Drache flight. If weather forces us to land before 35 minutes, there is an automatic price reduction to the corresponding base offer.

We do not artificially extend flights against nature or at the expense of safety margins. The final decision always lies with the pilot.

What is the Steinbock Safari?

The Steinbock Safari combines a guided hike in the Pilatus area with a subsequent tandem flight. This experience is aimed at nature‑loving guests who want more than just a flight. The safari requires sure‑footedness and normal fitness. In good conditions the flight time can be extended to one hour, but this depends on the weather.

What add‑ons can I book for my flight?

Optional add‑ons include photo and video service, premium video, “Fly with a Friend” and fixed time slots.

  • The photo and video service is professionally recorded by the pilot.
  • The premium video includes extended footage and additional perspectives and is currently only offered by pilot Samuel Metzger.
  • “Fly with a Friend” enables coordinated parallel flights with multiple pilots.
  • Fixed time slots increase planning certainty, provided the weather allows.

Add‑ons can be selected during booking or—depending on availability—added on site.

Are there alternatives if no flight is possible on Pilatus?

Yes. If a safe start is not possible on Pilatus, alternative flight areas may be considered. Depending on the weather we occasionally switch to other suitable launch sites such as Engelberg, Büehlen or Niederbauen. This decision is based solely on safety criteria. Flight time and experience can vary.

If no suitable flight is possible, the rules for postponement or cancellation according to our Terms and Conditions apply.

Can I upgrade during the flight?

Yes, a spontaneous upgrade to a longer package is possible if conditions and time slots allow. For example, if you book a Bergdohle and good thermals are present, the flight can be extended and charged as a Drache. The upgrade takes place situationally during the flight and only if there is time between subsequent flights. There is no guarantee of an upgrade.
